How to test properly
- Take the case off and remove any screen protector you suspect. Thick or badly fitted protectors block edge touches and are mistaken for hardware faults constantly.
- Clean and dry the screen. Moisture and grease both cause phantom or missed touches.
- Drag slowly, do not tap. A continuous line shows exactly where contact drops out; tapping can skip straight over a small dead zone.
- Cover the edges and corners. That is where digitiser damage usually starts, and where people forget to test. Watch the coverage percentage.
- Then test multi-touch by putting several fingers down together and checking the counter.

Charger-induced ghost touches
This one is worth calling out because it is common and the fix is cheap. Poorly grounded or counterfeit chargers inject electrical noise that a capacitive digitiser reads as touches. The signature is unmistakable: the screen behaves perfectly on battery and misbehaves the moment it is plugged in. Swap the charger and cable before spending anything on a repair.
Pressure and stylus support

How do I test if my touch screen is working?

How do I test multi-touch?
Put several fingers down at once. Each contact draws in its own colour and the counter shows how many the screen is tracking. Most phones handle five to ten; many laptop touchscreens handle ten. If two fingers register as one, or the count stops rising, the digitiser is limited or faulty.
What causes dead zones on a touch screen?
Usually a damaged digitiser layer, a cracked panel, a loose ribbon connector after a drop, or moisture under the glass. Some cases and screen protectors — especially thick or badly fitted ones — also block touch near the edges. Take the case off and retest before assuming hardware failure.
My touch screen is jumpy or registers taps I did not make.
That is usually electrical rather than mechanical. A cheap or faulty charger is the most common cause — unplug it and retest. Moisture, a dirty screen, or a metallic case can do it too. If it only happens while charging, replace the charger.
Does this test work with a stylus?
Yes. It uses pointer events rather than touch events, so a stylus, a mouse and a trackpad all draw. Where the hardware reports pressure, the line gets thicker as you press harder, which is a quick way to check pen pressure sensitivity.
Will this fix a broken touch screen?
No — it only diagnoses. It tells you whether the problem is the whole panel, one region, or multi-touch specifically, which is what a repair shop needs to know. Software problems sometimes clear with a restart; a physical dead zone will not.
